Although the feds had already tested the 2013 Cadillac ATS back in 2012 when it was completely new, in a recent test of a 2015 Cadillac ATS sedan and reconfirmed its top scores—including five stars in the driver and passenger side barrier subcategories, as well as the side pole test, which simulates a sideways impact with a utility pole or tree.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) still hasn't at all tested the ATS, so we're keeping our high safety rating of 9, out of 10. The ATS almost gets there without that second take on occupant safety, as it sure does offer a lot in accident-avoidance features.

All ATS sedans include eight airbags; rear side bags can be added; and a long list of active-safety features are available, including rear cross-traffic alert, side blind-zone alert, full-color head-up display, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist.

It should be noted that these results don't extend to the ATS Coupe, which is new for 2015 and hasn't yet been tested by either of the safety agencies.
