Samantha’s parents divorced when she was young, and she then lived in East Sussex with her mother, where she attended Beacon Community College.

In the 1990s, Taylor Wood began to pursue her interests in photography, collaborating with Henry Bond. In 1994, she then exhibited “Killing Time” which showcases four people mimed to an opera score. She continued to hold video exhibitions including “Travesty of a Mockery” and “Pent-Up”, and was nominated for a Turner Prize in 1998, and won the Most Promising Young Artist at the Venice Biennale. In 2000, she worked on the photomural at Selfridges store in London, which was then made to depict various cultural icons. Two years later, she completed a video portrait of David Beckham, which was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery. She also worked on the project “Crying Men” which features numerous Hollywood actors, and her net worth increased significantly thanks to these numerous projects.

In 2004, Sam ventured into films, first making the film installation called “Strings”. She then directed the short film “Love You More” before directing “Nowhere Boy”, which covered John Lennon’s relationship with his mother, and the creation of the band the Quarrymen which led to the Beatles – the film aired at the London Film Festival and received positive reviews, and was nominated for a BAFTA Award in 2010. The following year, she worked on the short film “Daydream” which stars Liberty Ross and JJ Field, and directed the film adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey”, which according to an interview she regretted directing. Despite this, all of her film work has helped in building her net worth even more.

For her personal life, it is known that Taylor Wood married art dealer Jay Jopling in 1997 and they had two daughters, but separated in 2008. 1[on some favourite things, 2011:] I've got a couple of favourite cameras, but the Leica M7 is the one I like to carry with me at all times. Otherwise I end up using my iPhone camera. I prefer to stick with film so the mistakes I make aren't just white-washed by digital life. Another favourite belonging is a postcard of Francis Bacon in Primrose Hill. It's a place I visit nearly every day and is close to where I live; it's where I think and breathe. It's great to see the park in the 1960s and realise nothing has really changed. I also have a 'Kiss Me Quick Hat' which is a memento from Nowhere Boy (2009) [Taylor Wood's directorial debut]. I didn't keep much paraphernalia from the film but this was special as they day we used it, everything was going really well. It brings back good memories. My Andy Warhol book is also very special to me - he's definitely an inspiration for me, especially in my film work. I love his ability to break rules. There's also The Velvet Underground and Nico LP - one of the best covers ever. And inside, some of the best music, ever.
